Nandan is one of Kolkata’s cultural hubs and facilitates cinematic awareness. I went to Nandan Theatre to watch the movie ‘Oti Uttam’ this year. The film released in 2024 had the veteran actor, Uttam Kumar, in the lead role. Uttam Kumar, a great actor in Bengali cinema, died of a heart attack in the year 1980.

The plot goes like this. A young man, Krishnendu, doing his doctorate on Uttam Kumar, calls the great actor through planchette to help create bonds with his girlfriend. The great actor comes to earth and is visible only to Krishnendu and his friend. The clippings of movies with Uttam Kumar are used in appropriate places. Finally, Krishnendu with the help of Uttam Kumar could create a bond with his girlfriend.    

The entire movie was hilarious with a new and beautiful concept. The popularity of an actor in his lifetime can also make the actor liked in a lead role after 44 years of demise. The movie used artificial intelligence with the utmost creativity.  

In addition, the Nandan Theatre had its charm. The art lovers gather in the Theatre Complex and one can hear a group or two playing guitar, or a dance festival going on in the other corner of the complex. Overall, the complex gives a vibe of Kolkata and its rich cultural heritage.
